== Overview ==
''Super-Shiritori'' is a custom Discord bot designed to run a smart and fun word game. It challenges players to continue a word chain where each new word starts with the last letter of the previous one. The bot includes special rules, unique gameplay modes, and comprehensive word tracking to keep things interesting.
Even though it’s actively maintained and improved, ''Super-Shiritori'' has always had its fair share of quirks, bugs, and glorious mishaps — just part of its charm.

A small number of additional text-trigger commands exist as hidden puzzle easter eggs. Their exact triggers are not documented publicly.
== AI Opponents ==
Multiplayer games may include an AI opponent, added either randomly through <code>/invite_ai</code> or by summoning a specific personality with a text command. Each personality follows its own word-selection logic; for example, NOOB favors short, simple words, PRO requires words of at least twelve letters, and MIMIC attempts to answer with an anagram of the player's own last word.
When added through <code>/invite_ai</code>, the personality is chosen from a weighted random pool. AVERAGE is the most common outcome, ASSASSIN occupies a small residual probability, and Sniper is excluded from random assignment entirely, appearing only as a dedicated event AI.
=== Summoning a Personality ===
Players in an active multiplayer game may attempt to summon a specific AI personality with a text command. Each attempt has an independent success chance and enters its own cooldown regardless of outcome.

== 🎭 AI Summons ==
Each summon works only in active games, has a cooldown, and some unlock titles.

=== Removing an AI ===
The <code>/murder_ai</code> command attempts to remove the active AI from a multiplayer game. Against any personality other than ASSASSIN, removal always succeeds. Against ASSASSIN specifically, the success chance drops to 1%, and failure silences the acting player for 120 valid words.
== Game Modes ==
=== Multiplayer Shiritori ===
The core game mode. Players take turns submitting words in a shared channel, each beginning with the final letter of the previous word. Repeated words, invalid characters, and words that do not follow the required letter all end a player's turn or the game, depending on server configuration.
=== Solo Shiritori ===
A private word-chain match played against an adaptive AI opponent in a dedicated thread. The AI begins as ROOKIE and its behavior shifts over time based on the player's performance and random chance.

== ⚙️ Behind the Scenes ==
=== Word Bomb ===
An elimination game for up to 16 players, each starting with three lives. On each turn, a player must submit a valid dictionary word containing an assigned prompt string before a timer runs out; failing to do so costs a life.

* '''Uptime Manager:''' Kos
Games are configured with several options when started through <code>/wordbomb</code>:
* '''Main Developer:''' Ghost (no_where.ghost_002)
; Bomb speed
* '''Admin Support:''' Kos (kos256), GreenyMage (greenymage)
: Slow, Standard, Fast, or Rapid, controlling the countdown timer
; Starting difficulty
: one of fifteen named buckets, based on how many dictionary words contain a given prompt, from Tranquil (120,000+ matches) down to Suicide (1 to 9 matches)
; Prompt length
: configurable between 2 and 4 letters
; Special characters
: hyphens and apostrophes can each be independently allowed or disallowed
; Categories
: an optional filter restricting prompts to a themed word list

''Super-Shiritori'' began over three years ago using a small curated list from the OMG Community. It later expanded with a bulk import of 320,000 words and ongoing contributions from users. The dictionary now includes:
The full set of difficulty buckets, from most to least common: Tranquil, Gentle, Steady, Unruly, Fierce, Ruthless, Brutal, Twisted, Aberrant, Chaos, Nightmare, Unreal, Void, Oblivion, and Suicide.

* Over 1,000,000 entries
The available category filters are: Blacklist, Cosmos, Geology, Languages, Mathology, Ideologies Religions & Cults, Songs & Albums, Creatures, Plants, Colorology, Food & Drinks, Phobias, Pokedex, Toponyms, Ologies, Numbers, Palindromes, Longs, and Smolz.
* Acronyms
* User-submitted words
* Foreign languages
* Constructed languages (conlangs)
* Dictionary scraping (Merriam-Webster, Oxford)

There is no anti-cheat system. Players are free to use external tools like Google or dictionaries, though playing blind is encouraged for maximum fun and learning.
=== Wordle ===
A private word-guessing game with two modes: Standardized, which applies stricter word validity rules, and Full Dictionary, which allows any word in the bot's full dictionary. Players choose a target word length between 5 and 18 letters and may optionally allow hyphenated words as valid answers. Win streaks are tracked separately for each word length and mode.

== 🎮 Unique Game Modes ==
=== Anagram ===
A private single-player game in which the bot selects a base word between 11 and 20 letters, containing no hyphens or apostrophes. The player attempts to find as many valid words as possible using only the letters available in that base word. A round requires at least five possible solutions to begin.

* '''Multiplayer Shiritori:''' Classic word-chain game with others or AI.
=== Dictionary Tools ===
* '''Solo Shiritori:''' Play privately against adaptive AI.
Two related but separate features track a player's progress through the dictionary. <code>/dictionaries</code> reports progress against specific themed word lists. <code>/wordhunt</code> is a recurring personal challenge, refreshing every 12 hours, that surfaces dictionary words the player has not yet used.
* '''Word Bomb:''' Elimination speed game — submit valid words before the bomb explodes.
* '''Wordle:''' Guess the secret word in 6 or 8 tries. Adjustable length and hyphen rules.
* '''Dictionary Hunts:''' Complete a 15-word challenge using unused dictionary words.

== 👥 Creator & Team ==
== Development ==
''Super-Shiritori'' has been developed and maintained by Ghost (no_where.ghost_002) since November 22, 2024, with administrative and moderation support from Kos (kos256) and GreenyMage (greenymage).

* '''Main Developer:''' Ghost (no_where.ghost_002)
The bot's dictionary began as a small curated word list originally compiled by OMG, creator of the Roblox game ''Word Bomb''. It later expanded through a bulk import of 320,000 words, followed by ongoing contributions from users, dictionary scraping from sources such as Merriam-Webster and Oxford, and the inclusion of acronyms, constructed languages, and foreign-language borrowings. The dictionary now exceeds one million entries. There is no anti-cheat system in place; players are free to consult external dictionaries or search engines, though playing without assistance is encouraged.
* '''Admins/Helpers:''' Kos (kos256), GreenyMage (greenymage)

When added through /invite_ai, the personality is chosen from a weighted random pool. AVERAGE is the most common outcome, ASSASSIN occupies a small residual probability, and Sniper is excluded from random assignment entirely, appearing only as a dedicated event AI.

Summoning a Personality

Players in an active multiplayer game may attempt to summon a specific AI personality with a text command. Each attempt has an independent success chance and enters its own cooldown regardless of outcome.

Removing an AI

The /murder_ai command attempts to remove the active AI from a multiplayer game. Against any personality other than ASSASSIN, removal always succeeds. Against ASSASSIN specifically, the success chance drops to 1%, and failure silences the acting player for 120 valid words.

Game Modes

Multiplayer Shiritori

The core game mode. Players take turns submitting words in a shared channel, each beginning with the final letter of the previous word. Repeated words, invalid characters, and words that do not follow the required letter all end a player's turn or the game, depending on server configuration.

Solo Shiritori

A private word-chain match played against an adaptive AI opponent in a dedicated thread. The AI begins as ROOKIE and its behavior shifts over time based on the player's performance and random chance.

Word Bomb

An elimination game for up to 16 players, each starting with three lives. On each turn, a player must submit a valid dictionary word containing an assigned prompt string before a timer runs out; failing to do so costs a life.

Games are configured with several options when started through /wordbomb:

Bomb speed
Slow, Standard, Fast, or Rapid, controlling the countdown timer
Starting difficulty
one of fifteen named buckets, based on how many dictionary words contain a given prompt, from Tranquil (120,000+ matches) down to Suicide (1 to 9 matches)
Prompt length
configurable between 2 and 4 letters
Special characters
hyphens and apostrophes can each be independently allowed or disallowed
Categories
an optional filter restricting prompts to a themed word list

The full set of difficulty buckets, from most to least common: Tranquil, Gentle, Steady, Unruly, Fierce, Ruthless, Brutal, Twisted, Aberrant, Chaos, Nightmare, Unreal, Void, Oblivion, and Suicide.

The available category filters are: Blacklist, Cosmos, Geology, Languages, Mathology, Ideologies Religions & Cults, Songs & Albums, Creatures, Plants, Colorology, Food & Drinks, Phobias, Pokedex, Toponyms, Ologies, Numbers, Palindromes, Longs, and Smolz.

Wordle

A private word-guessing game with two modes: Standardized, which applies stricter word validity rules, and Full Dictionary, which allows any word in the bot's full dictionary. Players choose a target word length between 5 and 18 letters and may optionally allow hyphenated words as valid answers. Win streaks are tracked separately for each word length and mode.

Anagram

A private single-player game in which the bot selects a base word between 11 and 20 letters, containing no hyphens or apostrophes. The player attempts to find as many valid words as possible using only the letters available in that base word. A round requires at least five possible solutions to begin.

Dictionary Tools

Two related but separate features track a player's progress through the dictionary. /dictionaries reports progress against specific themed word lists. /wordhunt is a recurring personal challenge, refreshing every 12 hours, that surfaces dictionary words the player has not yet used.

Development

Super-Shiritori has been developed and maintained by Ghost (no_where.ghost_002) since November 22, 2024, with administrative and moderation support from Kos (kos256) and GreenyMage (greenymage).

The bot's dictionary began as a small curated word list originally compiled by OMG, creator of the Roblox game Word Bomb.

As of August 13, 2026, the bot has run continuously, 24 hours a day, on hardware maintained directly by its developer, Ghost. This followed a military permanent change of station (Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "{".) relocation, with household expenses, including hosting costs, covered as part of U.S. government support connected to the move.

Official Design

  • The name is always spelled "Super-Shiritori".
  • The official color is hex #F91000, informally named "Shiritorier's-Orange" as of December 1.
  • The logo is a mahjong-style tile featuring the Japanese characters ボ ("bo") and ツ ("tsu").
