📖 Shiritori Bot Dictionary Guidelines

The Super Shiritori Bot Dictionary is a carefully maintained word list that powers all gameplay. It contains over 950,000 words, handpicked and auto-expanded with intelligent logic to balance fairness, creativity, and linguistic curiosity.

Unlike traditional dictionaries, ours blends standard English, culturally relevant references, and gameplay-specific terms. Here’s how it all works.

🗣️ Standard English Vocabulary

• Core of the dictionary. Includes:
  • Common nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs
  • Plurals, verb conjugations (e.g., run, ran, running)
  • Comparative/superlative forms (e.g., faster, fastest)
  • Compound nouns (e.g., ice-cream, mother-in-law)

🌍 Culturally Significant Proper Nouns

✅ Places

• Countries, cities, continents, regions, and well-known landmarks → e.g., japan, europe, eiffel

✅ Characters & Media

• Widely recognized fictional characters, species, or concepts → e.g., pikachu, hogwarts, kryptonite

❗ Note: These are not exhaustively curated. They are only added when suggested by players and pass review.

✅ Names (Conditional)

• Famous people only if the name is:
  • Used metaphorically or generically (e.g., john, bill)
  • Part of a well-known phrase or cultural reference → e.g., napoleon-complex, john-doe
• Most personal names are not accepted.

🌐 Foreign Terms (Integrated into English)

• Foreign-origin words commonly used in English → e.g., déjà-vu, rendezvous, resume
• Stored normalized: Accents/diacritics are flattened (e.g., touché → touche)

🔤 Acronyms & Expanded Phrases

In Word Bomb, acronyms are treated as valid entries — and so are their fully written-out, hyphenated forms. This creates more flexibility in gameplay while honoring how these acronyms function in English.

• Full Hyphenated Forms: → national-aeronautics-and-space-administration → self-contained-underwater-breathing-apparatus → what-you-see-is-what-you-get → i-love-you
• Ideological Acronym Clusters: → mlmsthpgldglstppcchcmtm → Stands for: marxism-leninism-maoism-stalinism-trotskyism-hoxhaism-posadism-gaddafism-luxembourgism-dengism-guevarism-longism-strasserism-titoism-pol-potism-castroism-chavism-ho-chi-minh-thought-mugabeism → All ideological components must be recognized terms individually.
• Technical or Niche Acronyms (if documented): → Like ram, cpu, gif, or sars — must be widespread and clearly defined.

🔁 Hyphenated Rule (Deacronymization)

If a valid acronym exists, its deacronymized, hyphenated form is also valid.

Example:

This is based on formatting logic introduced with wysiwyg, which is treated as both an acronym and its word-expansion.

❌ What’s Not Allowed

• Random or User-Created Acronyms: → Acronyms must be widely used or documented — no made-up abbreviations.
• No Expansion? No Entry. → If an acronym has no widely accepted long-form, then its hyphenated form will not be added.
• Redundant Acronyms Without Word Use: → If the acronym isn’t used as a standalone word (e.g., never spoken/written as a unit), it’s excluded.

🔢 Numbers as Words

Numbers are only allowed if they are treated as real words — meaning they must appear in documented, written, or spoken contexts as words, not just numerals.

✅ Valid Examples

• Written Numerals in Media or Song Lyrics: → one-fifty-one-thousand-six-hundred is accepted because it's the first lyric in Rest Employed by The Stupendium:

  “One-fifty-one-thousand-six-hundred people die every day on Earth…”

• Powers of Ten & Named Quantities: → hundred, thousand, million, billion, googol, centillion → Plurals are valid: millions, trillions
• Percent Phrases (1–100): → All values from one-percent to one-hundred-percent are accepted as written forms → Common in headlines, news, speeches (e.g., "The one-percent", "Seventy-five-percent of...")
• Compound Written Numbers (if documented): → Valid: two-thousand-twenty-four (if documented use found) → Not Valid: eight-hundred-seventy-two-thousand-six-hundred-seventy-eight (unless sourced)

❌ Not Accepted

• Arbitrary Numbers Without Context: → 151601, 497, or eighty-one-thousand-five-hundred-thirteen — unless documented in real usage — are rejected.
• Individual Numerals: → 1, 2, 99 (as digits) are not words → Must be written out with hyphens to be considered (e.g., ninety-nine)
• Pure Math/Placeholder Strings: → No base-10 technical strings or non-verbal math values like x10^6

• Random strings, typos, or invented combinations → e.g., xqwbno, asdfgh

❌ Obscure Proper Nouns

• Unrecognized places, indie characters, niche franchises
• Exceptions are made only if a term gains widespread use

❌ Most Names

• Personal names that do not have wider metaphorical, pop culture, or dictionary presence → e.g., aislinn, jazzlyn (unless dual-meaning or heavily used)

❌ Purely Foreign Words

• Words that have not been adopted into English usage → e.g., rare terms in Finnish, Swahili, etc. unless borrowed

❌ Invalid Characters

• Words containing:
  • Numbers (unless fully written or alphabetized like glock-eighteen)
  • Symbols other than:
    • - (hyphen)
    • ' (apostrophe)

❌ Words Over 250 Characters

• Words longer than 250 characters are auto-rejected
• May be reevaluated if usage proves significant (see: krung-thep-mahanakhon-amon-rattanakosin-mahinthara-ayuthaya-mahadilok-phop-noppharat-ratchathani-burirom-udomratchaniwet-mahasathan-amon-piman-awatan-sathit-sakkathattiya-witsanukam-prasit at 188 characters — accepted due to its association with "Bangkok")

💬 Urban Dictionary Entries

• Not valid unless independently verified in other public sources
• Slang must appear in mainstream media, dictionaries, or major online platforms

🏢 Stock Market Acronyms

• Acronyms from financial markets (e.g., nasdaq, spy) are accepted if common in English writing

🏙️ Long Place Names & Abbreviations

• Extremely long city/state names (e.g., Bangkok’s full ceremonial name) are accepted only if a recognizable acronym or shortened version is in common use → krung-thep-mahanakhon-... is valid because it expands to bangkok

🧠 Ideologies (Compound Forms)

• Strings of ideological terms are accepted if the acronym is:
  • Used
  • Suggested
