🔍 Searching
Look up words across multiple dictionaries and categories directly in the Super-Shitiori bot's official server.
🧭 Overview
The "#🔎｜searching" channel is a special channel on the official Super-Shiritori Bot server where players can search the entire word database with some limitations. You can search for any substring, regular expression, or full word, and pseudo-instantly (due to size it has some delay) browse results with interactive buttons.
🛠 How It Works
- Type your search pattern in the chat (e.g. water)
- The bot will:
- Normalize your pattern (case-insensitive and removing diacritics and converting all the official Normalizations)
- Run a search across all available words
- Display the first page of matching results (up to 13 per page and 5 if words are greater than a certain length)
🗂 Dictionary Filters
You can narrow down your results using the dropdown menu. Available filters include:
- 📚 All – Search every word in the bot's main dictionary
- 🚫 Blacklist – See Blacklisted words
- 🌌 Cosmos – Astronomical objects, Concepts, Names, and terms
- 😨 Phobias – Words ending in
-phobia/e/ac/st (and plural) - 🌍 Countries – Countries Regions and Territories (+ Fictional Nations)
- ⚡ Pokemon – Everything Pokémon Related from Anime Manga TCG Company
- 📖 Ologies – Words ending in
-ology + Suffixes - 🔢 Numbers – Words that are Numbers and or contain numbers 0-9 in word form
- 🔄 Palindromes – Words spelled the same forwards/backwards
- 🔹 Smalls – Short words less or equal to 5 letters
- 🔸 Large – Very long words greater or equal to 30 letters
Selecting a filter automatically refreshes your search with that filter applied.
Search results are interactive:
- ◀️ / ▶️ – Flip between pages of results
- Asc / Desc – Sort by length (shortest → longest or longest → shortest)
- A-Z / Z-A – Sort alphabetically
Results are cached for speed, so flipping pages is nearly instant.
⚠️ Known Quirks
Searching is powerful but has a few odd behaviors worth noting:
- Normalization Changes Your Regex – Certain symbols are replaced:
$becomesdollar, so searchingion$will act asiondollar
- Regex Mode Is Automatic – Most patterns are treated as regex. If your pattern causes an error, the bot falls back to substring search.
- Long Words Shrink Your Page Size – If a result is very long (100+ characters), fewer results will display per page.
⏳ Timeouts
Search results stay interactive for about 60 seconds. After that, buttons become disabled and you'll need to type again to refresh with a new search.
